Tehran: The Foreign Ministry has condemned Israel's continued military attacks on Lebanon, saying the UN Security Council bore responsibility for failing to act against Israeli aggression. In a statement on Wednesday, the ministry reaffirmed Iran's support for Lebanon in defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity as recent Israeli attacks on residential areas in southern Lebanon have killed and wounded dozens of Lebanese civilians, including women and children.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the statement also said Israel's attacks and occupation of parts of Lebanon were being carried out with explicit US support, making Washington a main partner in Israeli 'war crimes'. The ministry said the Security Council's inaction had undermined the credibility of the United Nations and encouraged Israel to expand its military campaign. It called on the United Nations, its secretary-general and member states to take measures to halt Israeli attacks and war crimes.

Iran also urged the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to make greater use of its capabilities to stop the attacks and hold those responsible accountable.
