Vienna: Iran has announced that an attempt by the United States to block its membership in a committee of the International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) General Conference has failed. Tehran secured significantly more votes in a subsequent ballot, overcoming the US effort to prevent its inclusion.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Behrouz Kamalvandi, spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), stated that the United States had made extensive efforts in recent days to block Iran's membership at the General Committee of the IAEA conference. Despite these efforts, the issue ultimately went to a vote.

Kamalvandi noted that the United States was defeated by a wide margin compared with Iran in the voting process. The setback for the US comes amid ongoing tensions between the two nations over nuclear activities and international diplomacy.
