Iran Seeks UNESCO Assistance for War-Damaged Cultural Heritage

Hanoi:An Iranian official has called for enhanced international efforts, particularly from UNESCO, to evaluate, document, and restore Iranian cultural heritage sites affected by US military actions.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Farhad Azizi Zelani from Iran's Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Tourism addressed these concerns in a meeting with Lazare Eloundou Assomo, Director of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, in Hanoi. They discussed the current status of Iran's cultural sites and the potential for expanded joint efforts.

Zelani outlined Iran's key requests for UNESCO's involvement, highlighting the need for the organization's technical and international expertise. He called for international specialists to assess the condition of Iranian monuments impacted by the recent conflict.

The UNESCO official expressed commitment to supporting cultural sites on the World Heritage List and revealed plans to send representatives to evaluate the damage and explore avenues for support and cooperation.
