New york: Iran's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, has called on Israel to adhere to international law and stop its violations of Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity. Iravani made these remarks during a UN Security Council session focusing on 'The situation in the Middle East: Syria.'
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Iravani emphasized that Israel's ongoing occupation of Syrian territory, particularly in the occupied Syrian Golan, poses a direct threat to regional stability and peace. He urged the Security Council to take action, noting that selective silence and political shielding only serve to legitimize aggression and undermine the Council's credibility.
The Iranian ambassador highlighted the severe humanitarian, economic, and security challenges faced by the Syrian people. He expressed support for the United Nations' efforts to address these issues and emphasized the importance of a Syrian-owned and Syrian-led political process that respects Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Iravani also addressed recent developments in north-eastern Syria, where the expansion of the interim government's authority and the comprehensive integration agreement have been significant steps toward restoring Syria's territorial integrity. He stressed the need for orderly and inclusive integration, protection of civilians, and accountability for violations.
The threat of terrorism remains a critical concern, with ISIS/Da'esh continuing its operations across Syria. Iravani underscored the importance of repatriating foreign terrorist fighters and their families to their countries of origin to prevent security vacuums that could destabilize the region.
The ambassador called for the international community to move beyond emergency relief in addressing Syria's humanitarian situation. He emphasized the need for investment in early recovery, reconstruction, and economic rehabilitation to support Syria's transition and stabilization.
Finally, Iravani reaffirmed Iran's commitment to supporting Syria's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. He reiterated Iran's support for a stable, unified, and secure Syria, free from terrorism, foreign occupation, and external interference.
