Iran Urges Regional Security Cooperation in Persian Gulf

Tehran:The head of Iran's parliamentary delegation has highlighted the importance of regional cooperation in ensuring lasting security in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz. Manouchehr Mottaki emphasized that security should be achieved through the participation of coastal states, dialogue, and shared responsibility.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Mottaki addressed the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) meeting, advocating for strengthened cooperation among Islamic countries. He underscored the need for unity and dialogue, asserting that one nation's security should not undermine another's.

Mottaki described the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz for both regional and global security. He called for its security to be managed by coastal states through participation and cooperation, rather than relying on foreign military presence. He proposed a comprehensive regional security mechanism focusing on maritime safety, environmental protection, and crime prevention.

Criticizing US sanctions on Iran's civil aviation, Mottaki urged Islamic countries to oppose these measures. He expressed gratitude to countries maintaining air cooperation with Iran and called on PUIC members to support civil aviation and humanitarian access.

Mottaki warned that any US military aggression would be met with a decisive response from Iran, stressing the importance of respecting Iran's national security and sovereignty. He cautioned against miscalculations regarding Iran's capabilities, highlighting potential serious consequences.

Addressing the crises in Palestine and Gaza, Mottaki called for political and diplomatic efforts to support the rights of nations. He emphasized that lasting regional security requires addressing the rights and self-determination of the Palestinian people, urging Islamic countries to transform solidarity into coordinated actions.
