Tehran: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi has kicked off his visit to Baghdad by paying tribute to Iranian and Iraqi commanders - Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis - at the site where they were martyred in Baghdad. His visit to the site took place before holding talks with Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Araqchi discussed key bilateral issues with his Iraqi counterpart, including Iran-Iraq relations, the recent conflict, diplomatic developments between Iran and the United States, and regional and international issues. During his visit, the Iranian foreign minister is also scheduled to meet other senior Iraqi officials to continue consultations on matters of mutual interest.
The agenda also includes discussions on arrangements for funeral ceremonies honoring the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, in several Iraqi cities, alongside broader regional coordination between the two neighboring countries.
