Athinaikos:Zahra Afshari, a promising 19-year-old goalkeeper from Iran's national handball program, has signed a one-year contract with Greek club Athinaikos H.C.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Athinaikos is a notable club in the Greek Handball League and is set to compete in both domestic competitions and the 2026-2027 European Cup this season.

The team, however, has had a challenging start, losing its opening match and currently holding the 11th position out of 12 in the Greek Handball Super League standings.

Afshari made a significant impact last year with standout performances for Iran's youth handball team, leading them to a historic gold medal at the Bahrain Youth Asian Games.
