Iranian Military Official Emphasizes Maritime Sector’s Economic Importance

Tehran:Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari, the deputy chief of the Iranian Army for Coordination, has underscored the strategic significance of the maritime sector in bolstering Iran's economic resilience and maintaining supply chains.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Sayyari, in a message marking World Maritime Day, emphasized that the maritime domain is a cornerstone of national power. He described it as a critical driver of trade, the economy, energy security, and the continuity of supply chains.

Sayyari pointed out that the conflicts involving the US and Israel over the past year have highlighted the importance of Iran's maritime capabilities. He noted that seafarers and professionals in shipping, ports, and energy transportation have played a crucial role in ensuring the uninterrupted flow of essential goods, raw materials, energy, and other vital supplies.

He also emphasized the contributions of the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines, the Ports and Maritime Organization, and the National Iranian Tanker Company in sustaining supply chains, maritime trade, and protecting the country's economic interests.

To further enhance Iran's position in regional and global maritime transport and blue economy networks, Sayyari stressed the need for improving maritime safety and security, modernizing and developing fleets and infrastructure, protecting the marine environment, and training specialized human resources.
