Sustainable Security in Persian Gulf Tied to Regional Cooperation, Says President

Tehran:President Masoud Pezeshkian highlighted the critical importance of the Strait of Hormuz for both regional and global security and the economy. He emphasized the need for a responsible approach to maintaining stability and protecting the interests of countries in the region.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Pezeshkian issued a message on Wednesday in observance of World Maritime Day, stating that sustainable security in the Persian Gulf and its waterways relies on cooperation and responsibility among regional nations.

He described the sea as more than just a body of water for Iran, referring to it as a divine blessing and an integral part of the nation's history, identity, and life. He stressed that maritime security is inseparable from development, as ports and transport routes are essential for trade and economic activity, which in turn bolster the country's national capabilities.

Pezeshkian affirmed Iran's commitment to maintaining security and stability in regional waterways and ensuring the safety of maritime shipping and trade. He noted that this effort is supported by the expertise and experience of Iran's naval forces and those involved in maritime affairs.

Moreover, the president underscored the significance of maritime science, technology, and environmental protection for future maritime development. He called for the engagement of universities, research initiatives, technology advancements, and increased attention to marine ecosystems.

Pezeshkian urged for greater involvement of the private sector, shipping companies, fishing communities, ports, maritime industries, universities, and coastal communities. He also called on the government to reduce obstacles, improve infrastructure, and facilitate investment.
