Tehran:Iran's Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade, Mohammad Atabak, has openly criticized the US Treasury Secretary for his statements about dismantling Iran's economic stability, describing the remarks as lacking logical reasoning.
According to the Islamic Republic News Agency, Atabak responded to the US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's claims that Iran's economy would not survive under pressure. He highlighted that similar predictions were made during the US-backed 12-Day Israeli regime war against Iran, which Washington later joined.
Atabak recalled that last year, Bessent had forecasted an even shorter timeframe for Iran's economic collapse. He emphasized that such statements from the American official are biased, given the adversarial relationship between the US and Iran, and should not be taken seriously.
Under the Trump administration, the US Treasury Secretary has been prominent in making accusations against Iran, which Iranian officials have dismissed as baseless.
Bessent's latest remarks prompted a response from Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. Addressing Bessent's rhetoric, Ghalibaf suggested that if the US official intended to regress Iran to the 1970s, it was not a task for someone of his stature. Ghalibaf humorously added on social media that Iran is not for "arrogant amateurs," referencing 1970s economic challenges and fashion trends.
