Iranian President Calls for Strengthened Ties with Azerbaijan

Tehran:Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has urged the enhancement of relations with Azerbaijan, emphasizing that shared borders should facilitate rather than hinder the expansion of these ties. He advocated for the accelerated development of road, air, and rail connections between the two nations.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, President Pezeshkian made these remarks during a meeting with Azeri Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev in Tehran. He highlighted Azerbaijan's significant role in Iran's neighborhood policy and described the countries as relatives and brothers, advocating for the full utilization of their capacities to deepen bilateral relations.

The Iranian president noted the intertwined nature of the two countries' scientific, cultural, economic, political, and security relations. He emphasized the necessity of joint efforts to strengthen cooperation and highlighted the potential of the shared border as a means of increasing interaction.

President Pezeshkian welcomed the agreements reached during Mustafayev's discussions with Iran's ministers and stressed the importance of their swift implementation. He identified transportation and communication networks as crucial for connecting the two nations and called for an expansion and integration of land, air, and rail routes to enhance bilateral relations.

Deputy Prime Minister Mustafayev briefed President Pezeshkian on his meetings with Iranian ministers and reaffirmed Azerbaijan's commitment to advancing its relationship with Tehran. He emphasized the need to implement existing agreements and enhance transport and communication cooperation, underscoring the importance of strengthening transit routes and utilizing current capacities.
