Tehran: Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni arrived in Islamabad on Monday for a two-day official visit at the invitation of his Pakistani counterpart, Syed Mohsin Naqvi, to discuss ways of strengthening bilateral cooperation in trade, border security, and agriculture. Momeni and his accompanying delegation were received at Noor Khan Air Base by Naqvi and the Ambassador to Pakistan, Reza Amiri Moghaddam, upon arrival.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the delegation includes senior officials from the ministries of Interior, Foreign Affairs, Roads and Urban Development, Agriculture Jihad, as well as representatives from Iran's Law Enforcement Command and the Customs Administration. The delegation also comprises officials from the ministries of Petroleum, Industry, and Economy and Finance, along with senior authorities from Sistan and Baluchestan province.

Talks during the visit are expected to cover the development of bilateral relations, including the strengthening of border cooperation and the expansion of economic, transit, and agricultural ties between the two countries. The trip is being carried out in line with a directive from President Masoud Pezeshkian to raise annual trade between Iran and Pakistan from three billion dollars to ten billion dollars.

The visit follows a meeting on June 20 between Naqvi and President Pezeshkian in Tehran, during which it was agreed that a high-level delegation led by the Iranian interior minister would travel to Pakistan to explore avenues for expanding economic, commercial, and investment cooperation. During his stay, Momeni is also scheduled to meet with other senior Pakistani officials.

Following his visit to Pakistan, Momeni is scheduled to travel to New Delhi at the invitation of India's interior minister to attend a BRICS ministerial meeting on natural disaster risk reduction.
