Iran’s Military and Diplomatic Strategy Ends 12-Day Conflict with Israel: Analyst

Tehran: Political analyst Trita Parsi has attributed the end of a 12-day conflict with Israel to Iran’s combined military strength and diplomatic efforts. In an exclusive interview with IRNA, Parsi, the executive vice president of the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft in the United States, highlighted Iran’s strategic approach in seeking international support and its successful efforts following a supportive statement from the BRICS group.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Parsi noted that Iran’s robust response against Israel and the resulting regional solidarity were unprecedented. He emphasized that this newfound regional unity was not solely due to the attack on Iran but also because of its significant retaliation against Israel, showcasing a form of resistance that had not been seen before.

The Quincy Institute official further remarked on the shifting sentiments after two years of documented Israeli actions in the region, which have fostered a growing resistance against the regime. However, he cautioned that Iran’s diplomatic efforts must now translate this regional sympathy into concrete achievements.

In discussing Iran’s diplomatic maneuvers during the conflict, Parsi explained that Iran’s active diplomacy aimed to demonstrate its commitment to negotiation and de-escalation. Despite the aggression, Iran successfully rallied international support, particularly after overcoming initial resistance from India within the BRICS group. While diplomacy played a role in ending the conflict, Parsi asserted that Iran’s military deterrence, particularly its missile capabilities, was crucial in halting further Israeli aggression.

Reflecting on U.S. foreign policy, Parsi observed changes in former President Trump’s stance, which shifted towards Israel’s zero enrichment demands, leading to a stalemate in negotiations. He expressed uncertainty over the reasons for Trump’s change but noted that the current focus appears to be maintaining the status quo without further escalation.

Parsi concluded by highlighting the regional sympathy Iran has gained due to its firm stance against Israel. While this support reflects the region’s appetite for standing up to perceived aggression, he emphasized that Iranian diplomacy must effectively harness this sentiment into tangible diplomatic victories.
