Tehran: President Masoud Pezeshkian has declared that Iran is engaged in a 'full-scale war' with the United States, identifying the economy and public livelihood as the crucial battlefronts in this confrontation.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Pezeshkian made these remarks during a session of the Supreme Judicial Council, emphasizing that the conflict extends beyond traditional military engagements. He asserted that Iran's adversaries have shifted their focus from military attacks to economic pressure, aiming to undermine the country's stability by targeting its economy and affecting daily life.
Pezeshkian expressed concern that economic pressures could lead to public discontent, which might weaken the social support his government has garnered among Iranians. He called for unified decision-making and coordination across all branches of government, stressing the need for collective support to manage the ongoing crisis effectively.
He highlighted the importance of justice as a foundational element of governance, insisting that upholding the rule of law and protecting citizens' rights are vital for the government's longevity. Pezeshkian also identified addressing poverty, unemployment, and livelihood issues as both religious and governing obligations, urging officials to remain attentive to the challenges faced by the population.
Acknowledging recent price increases, Pezeshkian attributed them to economic conditions and external sanctions rather than governmental shortcomings. He noted that his administration ensured the availability of essential goods even as the challenges coincided with Nowruz and Ramadan.
Pezeshkian reiterated Iran's commitment to defending its national interests during recent negotiations, pointing out that the memorandum of understanding with the US included no detrimental concessions to Iran. He emphasized that the agreement's terms largely benefit the Islamic Republic.
He also cited a Quranic verse to underscore the notion that hardship is a divine test, urging the nation to remain steadfast despite the trials. Pezeshkian acknowledged the complexities wartime conditions introduce to governmental coordination and decision-making processes.
Referring to Judiciary Chief Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei's comments, Pezeshkian highlighted the need for managers capable of making prompt decisions without fear of repercussions for bypassing standard procedures. He also emphasized the necessity of a final decision-making authority within the governance system, identifying the Leader of the Islamic Revolution as holding this role.
Pezeshkian commended the unprecedented coordination among Iran's three government branches, expressing gratitude to Mohseni-Ejei and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Ghalibaf for their collaboration. He noted that his government operates beyond factional lines, with support from former presidential rivals like Ghalibaf and Tehran Mayor Alireza Zakani.
Addressing structural inequalities in sectors such as electricity, water, gas, and public-sector pay remains a priority for Pezeshkian's government, though he acknowledged that comprehensive reforms require time amid ongoing external pressures from the US and Israeli regime.
He concluded by expressing appreciation for the judiciary's work, describing the administration of justice as a significant responsibility within the Islamic Republic's governance framework.
