Israeli Regime Poses Major Threat to West Asia, Says Iran’s Foreign Minister

Tehran: Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has reiterated Iran’s stance that the Israeli regime remains a principal threat to the stability of the West Asia region. He emphasized Iran’s support for the growing regional consensus acknowledging this threat.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Araghchi made these remarks during a media briefing at the second meeting between Iran and the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) in Tehran. The comments came a day after leaders from Arab and Islamic nations convened in Doha to deliberate on an Israeli attack on Qatar and the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Araghchi noted the significance of the Doha summit, highlighting the participation of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Arab League as indicative of Muslim countries’ focus on new regional developments.

Araghchi stated that Iran’s warnings about the Israeli regime have materialized into a reality recognized by all regional states, marking Israel as the primary regional threat due to its persistent acts of aggression. Addressing questions about Qatar’s potential role as a mediator in talks with the United States, Araghchi mentioned that several regional countries are attempting to facilitate dialogue. He stressed that the critical factor in negotiations is the willingness of the other party to engage in agreements based on mutual interests without threats.

Regarding the Iran-ECO meeting, Araghchi expressed Iran’s intention to fortify the organization and consider membership requests from interested states. He mentioned that a 10-year vision is being drafted to enhance ECO’s focus and effectiveness in promoting regional economic development.

Commenting on President Masoud Pezeshkian’s upcoming participation at the UN General Assembly, Araghchi affirmed Iran’s active role in the UN. He stated that Iran will continue to use this platform to advocate for the rights of its people and articulate its positions on regional and international matters.
