Tehran:President Masoud Pezeshkian has put forward Mehrdad Akhlaghi Ketabchi as the nominee for Iran's defense minister, requesting Parliament's approval through a confidence vote.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Akhlaghi, who currently holds a senior position within the Defense Ministry, has previously led the Aerospace Industries Organization.
The nomination was announced by Sasan Valizadeh, an adviser to the president's parliamentary affairs deputy, in compliance with Article 133 of Iran's Constitution. The Parliament is set to review Akhlaghi's plans in a committee before proceeding with the confidence vote.
If Akhlaghi's nomination is confirmed, he will replace Brigadier General Aziz Nasirzadeh, who was killed in a US-Israeli attack on Iran on February 28.
