Mexican Artist Honors Minab School Victims with ‘Butterflies of Minab’ Artwork

Minab:Mexico City Mexican artist María Schietekat has paid tribute to the children killed in a US airstrike on Shajareh Tayyebeh Elementary School in Iran's southern city of Minab by creating an artwork titled 'Butterflies of Minab'. The piece was presented to Iran's ambassador to Mexico.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Schietekat handed over the artwork to Abolfazl Pasandideh at the Iranian Embassy in Mexico City. The creation, made from paper, cardboard, and recycled materials, expresses grief over the children's deaths and solidarity with their grieving families.

The artwork features the children as butterflies flying toward a sun over Iran, with the school and the name 'Minab 168' at the bottom. Books and school supplies are also depicted, symbolizing the childhood dreams cut short by the attack.

The artist spoke emotionally about the victims, stating that while war could destroy bodies and material possessions, it could not erase children's dreams and stories. She expressed hope that her message would reach the grieving mothers of Minab.

Pasandideh thanked the artist, highlighting the immense value of the work, which he stated required no translation to convey its heartfelt message. He emphasized that Minab was a shared pain for all humanity and urged the international community to demand accountability and prevent the normalization of killing innocent people.

The Shajareh Tayyebeh Elementary School was struck in the early stages of the war launched by the US and Israel against Iran on February 28, resulting in the deaths of 168 people, including 157 children.
