Tehran: The Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission has approved a provision requiring the full name 'Persian Gulf' to be used in all negotiations, treaties, agreements, publications, and relevant documents, as well as communications involving vessels and fleets. Hassan Ghashghavi, spokesman for the committee, announced this decision following the committee's meeting, highlighting the strategic importance of this move in ensuring security and sustainable development in the region.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the approval of this provision is part of a broader bill focused on strategic measures related to the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf. The committee's meeting also saw the approval of Article 10 of the bill, which mandates that any construction, operation, and development of communications and information technology infrastructure in the Strait of Hormuz must receive approval from the relevant Iranian authorities. This includes the development of fibre-optic networks.

Ghashghavi indicated that implementing regulations for the provision are to be drafted within three months of the law taking effect. This task will involve coordination between the Defense Ministry, the Communications Ministry, the Roads and Urban Development Ministry, and the General Staff of the Armed Forces, with the regulations ultimately being submitted to the cabinet for approval.

The commission continues to review Article 13, which pertains to the regulations governing the passage of vessels through the Strait of Hormuz under the rules applied by Iran. The bill is still subject to approval in an open session of the parliament and must also secure the endorsement of the Guardian Council before it can be enacted into law.
