Stopping US-Israeli War on Iran Is Pakistan’s Priority: Top Senator

Islamabad: A senior Pakistani lawmaker has stressed the urgency of ending the US-Israeli war on Iran and advancing diplomacy, stating that a post-sanctions era for Iran could open a chapter for regional cooperation and shared prosperity.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Agha Shahzeb Durrani, chairman of the Pakistani Senate's Foreign Relations Committee, emphasized in an exclusive interview that Islamabad prioritizes the cessation of war and the establishment of peace in the region. Durrani expressed Pakistan's strong determination to advance diplomacy, with the main goal of halting the war and restoring stability.

Durrani highlighted the significance of ties between Iran and Pakistan, mentioning that the longstanding relationship between the two neighbors has been a key factor in Pakistan's mediation efforts. He reiterated Pakistan's solidarity with Iran and offered condolences for the martyrdom of the late Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

He discussed the broader impact of the war, noting the exacerbation of challenges such as poverty, food insecurity, climate change, and regional instability. Durrani praised the efforts of Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, acknowledging their role in attempting to resolve the situation for the benefit of all involved parties.

Durrani also advocated for strengthening bilateral cooperation in trade, culture, parliamentary exchanges, and tourism. He noted that lifting sanctions on Iran would provide an opportunity for securing common regional interests, particularly through the completion of a joint gas pipeline project to benefit from Iran's energy resources.

The Pakistani official warned against actions by those opposed to diplomacy, cautioning that Israel could conspire against peace efforts in collaboration with regional partners. He expressed appreciation for Iran's trust in Pakistan and its acceptance of mediation proposals, describing Iranian officials' perspectives as constructive.

Meanwhile, Iran has submitted a negotiation proposal to Pakistan aimed at ending the US-Israeli-imposed war. CBS News reported that Pakistani officials delivered Iran's revised response to recent US conditions for ending the war to American authorities.
