Geneva: Iran views any indirect involvement by US President Donald Trump in nuclear talks as a matter for Washington, not Tehran, according to sources close to the Iranian negotiating team. An IRNA correspondent in Geneva reported that the sources stated the Islamic Republic enters the talks with the clear objective of lifting sanctions and reaching an agreement that delivers tangible benefits to the Iranian nation.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the sources close to the Iranian delegation said Tehran participates in the negotiations seriously, seeking the removal of unjust sanctions in exchange for necessary transparency regarding its nuclear activities. On reports about the US president's indirect participation, the Iranian sources noted that no such issue has been raised with the Iranian side. They added that the move likely reflects Washington's desire to signal that the talks are approaching a decisive stage.

This round of indirect Tehran-Washington talks begins on Tuesday, following earlier negotiations launched on February 6 in Muscat, Oman. In the process, Iran and the United States exchange views, considerations and proposals through Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad al-Busaidi. Both Iran and the US have so far described the talks as positive and have expressed readiness to continue.

Iran stated it takes part in the negotiations responsibly and with determination to resolve an unnecessary nuclear crisis. It added that a fair understanding remains within reach if the United States shows sufficient political will.
