London:The UK has implemented new sanctions against Iran, imposing stricter financial, trade, and transport restrictions that further limit Tehran's access to British financial systems and markets.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the updated measures were announced by London on September 8 and came into effect on Tuesday, following amendments to the UK's Iran sanctions regulations.
The sanctions impact several sectors, including energy, oil and petroleum products, natural gas, petrochemicals, maritime activities, gold, precious metals, diamonds, software, and technology. Restrictions have also been extended to related services and transactions.
As part of these measures, Iranian aircraft are now prohibited from landing in the UK, except where exemptions apply. Additionally, London has expanded its authority to sanction ships associated with Iran's nuclear program and activities deemed destabilizing.
Stephen Doughty, Minister of State for the Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, stated that the financial measures would further limit Iran's ability to access the UK financial system and secure funds to support its nuclear program.
Iran has consistently criticized the policy of pressure, threats, and sanctions as inconsistent with Western countries' claims of promoting diplomacy. Tehran argues that such measures not only fail to resolve disputes but also undermine the potential for dialogue.
