Tehran:The United States has accepted Iran's seven-day proposal but has requested the inclusion of additional clauses, according to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Araghchi disclosed in an interview with Iraq's Al Ekhbariya television network that diplomatic dialogues between Iran and the United States are ongoing. He noted that Iran had previously presented a seven-day plan to the U.S., which included specific conditions such as reopening the Strait of Hormuz on the sixth day. While the U.S. agreed to these terms, they sought to add more clauses.
Araghchi emphasized the importance of maintaining diplomatic channels, provided that commitments are honored by both parties. He expressed that the U.S., not Iran, was hindering progress and insisted that the U.S. should adhere to the agreed-upon conditions.
The foreign minister also addressed the tensions in the Strait of Hormuz and dismissed any Iranian involvement in Red Sea developments. He reiterated that the full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz is contingent upon reaching an understanding or agreement, with the U.S. expected to accept Iran's terms for maritime passage.
The situation is governed by a 14-point Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, which requires the U.S. to cease hostilities and lift sanctions on Iran in exchange for the gradual reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. The strait was brought under Iranian control in March amid U.S.-Israeli aggression.
