Fight Against Terrorism Both Challenging and Essential, States Iranian Official

TEHRAN: Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi, emphasized the importance of combating terrorism despite its challenges, during a ceremony in Tehran. The event marked the eve of the fifth anniversary of the assassination of Major General Qassem Soleimani, which occurred on January 3.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Gharibabadi highlighted Soleimani's commitment to fighting terrorism amidst the turmoil caused by Takfiri terrorists in the Middle East. He noted that the international community has long concentrated on counter-terrorism efforts, underscoring Iran's dual role as both a victim and a key player in the fight against terrorism.

Gharibabadi criticized Western nations for their support of Israel, particularly in relation to the situation in Gaza, describing it as shameful. He condemned the financial and military aid provided to Israel and expressed disapproval of labeling resistance groups as terrorists. The Iranian official also reported that terrorist attacks have claimed 23,000 Iranian lives over the past four decades.

The ceremony in Tehran also commemorated the first anniversary of the terrorist attack on the Kerman Cemetery and featured the unveiling of an encyclopedia documenting the 23,000 Iranian victims of terrorism. Iranian officials and foreign ambassadors were in attendance to pay tribute and call for enhanced international cooperation in the fight against terrorism.
