Tehran: Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has emphasized that recent events have shown that the presence of the United States in the region not only does not bring security but also creates the ground for insecurity. Ghalibaf met with visiting Pakistan's Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi in Tehran on Sunday.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, during the meeting, Ghalibaf remarked that some regional governments believed that the presence of the US would ensure their security. However, he noted, recent developments have demonstrated that this presence not only fails to secure the region but also lays the groundwork for insecurity. He expressed appreciation for the support and cooperation of the Pakistani nation and government with the Islamic Republic of Iran during the recent major conflict. Ghalibaf highlighted that the Iranian people and officials are fully aware of Pakistan's support, and the Leader of the Islamic Revolution acknowledged this in his first message.
Ghalibaf further commented on the current state of bilateral relations between Tehran and Islamabad, describing them as positive. He emphasized the need for increased cooperation in political, economic, cultural, and security fields compared to the past, with a particular focus on enhancing parliamentary cooperation.
In response, Pakistan's Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi praised the Iranian delegation's commitment to Iran's national interests during talks in Islamabad. He expressed optimism that Pakistan would be able to successfully conclude the negotiations.
