Tehran: President Masoud Pezeshkian has marked the national commemoration day of Omar Khayyam by hailing the medieval polymath as the embodiment of the intersection between 'global science and thought' and 'Persian literature'.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, in a message to mark the occasion on Monday, Pezeshkian described Khayyam as more than a celebrated poet, calling him 'the living embodiment of the magnificent convergence of global science and thought with Persian literature.'
Pezeshkian stated that the commemoration day of Khayyam is a celebration of rationality, scientific research, and free thinking. He expressed hope that today's generation would take inspiration from Khayyam, taking firm steps toward the production of science and the preservation of Iranian culture.
Pezeshkian highlighted Khayyam's achievements across multiple fields, including solving cubic equations and developing non-Euclidean geometry principles in mathematics. He also noted Khayyam's role in designing the Jalali calendar as one of the world's most precise timekeeping systems, and his use of quatrains to bring philosophical reflections on existence, time, and the human condition to a broad audience.
