Tehran: Deputy Chief of Iran's Judiciary and Secretary of the Human Rights Headquarters has issued a strong critique of the UN Security Council and human rights mechanisms, condemning their response to actions by the Zionist regime and the US against Iran. He characterized attacks on critical infrastructure as 'environmental genocide' and war crimes.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Nasser Seraj stated in an interview that the February 28th attack on a girls' school in Minab was a war crime and a violation of fundamental human rights. He urged the UN Security Council to condemn the massacre as a war crime and pursue it through legal channels, noting the US veto power has diminished the Council's effectiveness.
Seraj also called on the Human Rights Council to hold accountable those responsible for the Minab school attack. He criticized attacks on Iranian medical centers during the 40-day war, labeling them war crimes and a violation of international norms protecting vulnerable human moments.
Seraj cited deliberate targeting of medical centers like Gandhi Hospital and Khatam al-Anbia Hospital as examples of the destruction of Iran's vital infrastructure. He condemned American and Israeli attacks on Iranian homes, which resulted in civilian casualties, describing them as tragic for all Iranians.
He pointed to attacks on vital infrastructure, including oil depots and water facilities, as violations of international humanitarian law, threatening the health and environment of millions of Iranians. Seraj also criticized Persian Gulf countries, including the UAE, for deporting Iranian citizens during the war, calling it a violation of international law and human rights.
Seraj accused these countries of adopting discriminatory policies, including visa cancellations and property seizures, violating principles of equality and non-discrimination. He concluded that these wartime measures against a vulnerable community are examples of arbitrary behavior and a violation of human rights obligations.
