Tehran: Iranian ambassador to Damascus Hossein Akbari has reaffirmed his country's support for Syria in combating terrorist threats, emphasizing that the relationship between Tehran and Damascus is robust enough to ensure mutual protection and defense. According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Akbari highlighted in an interview with Al-Mayadeen that the relations between Iran and Syria are at an elevated level, underscoring the natural inclination for mutual support and defense amidst challenging circumstances. The ambassador also expressed a preference for peaceful resolutions to regional crises, expressing optimism that political measures could aid in resolving issues in Syria. Akbari mentioned that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is set to visit other regional nations as part of ongoing consultations regarding developments in Syria. He noted Iran's longstanding role in mediating to facilitate the peace process in the region. The threat posed by the Daesh terrorist group, Akbari warned, extends b eyond Syria and Iraq, with potential repercussions for the entire world, particularly Syria's neighboring countries. Furthermore, Akbari disclosed that Syria faces significant pressure and targeting due to its anti-Israel stance. He criticized the United States for attempting to sow discord among resistance axis members, including Iran and Syria, suggesting that Washington's strategy aims to sustain its unauthorized presence in Syria to protect Israel's interests.
