Tehran: Iran has issued a strong condemnation of Israeli airstrikes on crucial Yemeni ports, labeling the actions as a war crime. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei described the strikes as evidence of Israel's aggressive and criminal tendencies, highlighting their impact on the region's Muslim nations.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Baqaei's statement, released on Saturday, criticized the Israeli military actions as part of a continuing series of offenses against Muslim countries. He pointed out that the attacks targeted Yemen's economic infrastructure and vital public facilities, including the ports of Al Hudaydah, Ras Isa, and Salif. Baqaei emphasized that these actions violate international law and the United Nations Charter, classifying them as war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Baqaei noted that these strikes exacerbate the already severe humanitarian crisis in Yemen, where a blockade has led to widespread suffering. He argued that the destruction of critical infrastructure is an attempt to further deprive the Yemeni people of essential resources.
The spokesperson also accused the United States, Britain, and other Western governments of complicity in Israel's actions in Gaza and its aggressive policies towards regional Muslim populations, including Yemen. Baqaei claimed that the support from these countries has emboldened Israel to continue its aggressive actions and violations of international norms.
Baqaei criticized the United Nations Security Council for its lack of response, suggesting that its silence indicates a decline in moral and legal authority. He called on the Islamic world to oppose Israel's expansionist and aggressive policies through unity and solidarity, warning that the continuation of such conditions could destabilize the region and threaten global peace.
