Iran, Mexico Celebrate Cultural Ties with Cyrus-Inspired Plaque in Hidalgo’s Hometown

Abasolo: A ceremony described as a rare and historic event was held in the Mexican city of Abasolo, the birthplace of Miguel Hidalgo, the father of Mexico's independence, where a commemorative plaque inspired by the Cyrus Cylinder was unveiled.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the May 8 event coincided with the anniversary of Hidalgo's birth and drew around 300 political, academic, and diplomatic figures. Attendees included the deputy head of Cuba's embassy in Mexico, the head of the Morena party in Guanajuato state, members of Mexico's Senate and federal Congress, local officials, academics, cultural activists, and Mexican citizens gathered at Abasolo's historical museum.

The plaque, presented as a symbol of dialogue between the civilizations of Iran and Mexico, bears part of a historical message from Cyrus the Great on freedom and human dignity. 'Human beings are free to live and work in any land, provided that they do not violate the rights of others,' the inscription reads.

Participants described the unveiling as an important step in strengthening cultural and historical ties between the two nations and as a bridge linking two civilizations with deep-rooted traditions of independence, national dignity, and cultural resistance.

Speaking at the ceremony, Iran's ambassador to Mexico highlighted historical similarities between Iran's Islamic Revolution and Mexico's independence movement, saying both nations shared experiences of resisting foreign domination, defending national identity, and striving for independence and justice.
