Iran Reaffirms Commitment to Amicable Relations with Neighbors, Addresses Diplomatic Tensions with Azerbaijan

TEHRAN: Iran's Foreign Ministry has reiterated its commitment to maintaining friendly relations with neighboring countries, specifically highlighting its diplomatic approach toward the Republic of Azerbaijan. This statement comes amidst recent diplomatic tensions between the two countries.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Mojtaba Damirchi, an assistant to Iran's foreign minister, confirmed that Iran's charg© d'affaires in Baku, Seyyed Jafar Aghaei Maryan, was summoned by the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The summons was in response to controversial remarks made by an unnamed individual during an event in northwestern Iran, which were deemed 'inappropriate' by Azerbaijani officials.

Damirchi emphasized that the comments in question do not represent Iran's official position. He stressed the importance of distinguishing individual statements from the country's diplomatic policies, underscoring Iran's dedication to fostering positive relations with its neighbors, including Azerbaijan. The reaffirmation of this policy highlights Iran's broader diplomatic strategy in the region.
