Tehran: President Masoud Pezeshkian says any negotiations involving Iran are aimed at securing the nation's rights and firmly defending national interests, stressing that dialogue does not mean surrender or retreat.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Pezeshkian emphasized during a meeting of the task force for reconstruction of damages caused by the 'third imposed war' that the Iranian nation 'will never bow before the enemy.' He stated that discussions or negotiations are not about surrender but about ensuring the rights of the Iranian nation and defending national interests.
US President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire with Iran on April 8 after a period of aggression against Iran. However, he later ordered the continuation of a blockade of Iranian vessels and ports, violating the ceasefire terms. Despite these actions, indirect dialogue between the two sides has been ongoing.
Pezeshkian highlighted the importance of social solidarity and understanding of the country's challenges. He noted that people should be realistic about the limitations and difficulties Iran faces. He expressed confidence that with the people's support and national unity, the challenges could be overcome.
He also referred to the difficulties resulting from the recent conflict, stating that enduring hardship and remaining steadfast can sometimes be 'even more difficult than martyrdom.' Pezeshkian noted that those who endure with patience and resistance are engaging in what he termed the 'greater jihad.'
