Araghchi Criticizes EU’s Diminished Role in Geopolitical Affairs

Tehran: Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi claims that the European Union has lost its understanding of Iran's internal dynamics and geopolitical influence. In a post on his X account, Araghchi lamented the transformation of the usually serious Munich Security Conference into what he described as the "Munich Circus" concerning Iran.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Araghchi criticized the EU for several reasons, highlighting its confusion and inability to comprehend the situation within Iran. He argued that the EU's lack of strategic direction has resulted in a loss of geopolitical significance in the region. Furthermore, he singled out Germany for allegedly allowing its regional policy to be heavily influenced by Israel.

Araghchi emphasized that the trajectory of Europe is concerning, pointing out that the EU/E3's effectiveness and relevance have diminished, particularly regarding the ongoing discussions about Iran's nuclear program. He noted that Europe, once a crucial participant in these talks, is now absent, while regional allies have become more supportive and impactful than what he described as the "empty-handed and peripheral" E3.
