Tehran: Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has declared that Iran remains committed to its path of resistance, undeterred by external pressures, and asserted that the nation will not let the memory of those unjustly killed fade away. Araghchi made these statements on Sunday during an event titled 'Muharram and Ashura as Reflected in Foreign Ministry Documents' in Tehran.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Araghchi underscored that a closer look at documents concerning the events of Ashura highlights Iran's pursuit of dignity against hegemonic and colonial powers. He emphasized that Iranian diplomacy, as showcased in these documents, is neither inflexible nor narrowly opportunistic but is centered around humanistic values.

Araghchi further explained that safeguarding religious sanctities and promoting the culture of Ashura have been integral to Iran's national commitment and diplomatic identity, even in the face of anti-religious policies by some rulers, especially during the Pahlavi regime. He noted that this year's Muharram and Ashura hold a unique significance due to what he described as 'unjust and cowardly aggression' by the US and Israeli regimes against Iran.

He highlighted the sacrifices made by Iran, mentioning the loss of numerous martyrs in defense of the country's freedom, dignity, and independence. Despite witnessing the killing of senior figures and compatriots across the nation, the Iranian people have remained resolute in defending their dignity and independence.

Araghchi warned that history has shown that when nations abandon sacrifice and perseverance, they risk losing more than just territory; they risk losing their collective identity, national will, and the ability to shape their future. He reaffirmed Iran's ideological and strategic commitment to resistance, vowing that the country will continue to stand firm against injustice and inhumanity.

In his concluding remarks, Araghchi pledged to the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, that Iran will not let the bloodshed be forgotten or ignored. He stated that this blood will continue to fuel the struggle for justice, making it stronger and more deeply rooted.

Following his address, Araghchi inaugurated the 'Muharram and Ashura as Reflected in Foreign Ministry Documents' exhibition, organized by the Foreign Ministry's Institute for Political and International Studies, set to run from August 9 to 11, 2026.
