Tehran: Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has outlined the outcome of negotiations between Iran and the United States, mediated by Qatar and Pakistan, aimed at permanently ending the war launched by the US and Israel against Iran earlier this year.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Araghchi shared a post on X early Monday alongside a photo of a joint statement issued by Pakistan and Qatar following the first round of quadrilateral talks held in Brgenstock, Switzerland, a day earlier. Araghchi was part of the Iranian delegation, led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, which also included several other senior officials. Ahead of Sunday's meeting, the delegation said the talks were intended to ensure the implementation of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) electronically signed by the Iranian and US presidents several days earlier. The MoU calls for an end to hostilities on all fronts, including in Lebanon.
'Tireless Pakistani and Qatari mediation has delivered major progress to end Lebanon War. Oil and petrochem exports are waived, blockade lifted, some frozen assets released, and major reconstruction and development plan launched for Iran. 1st real test: Lebanon deconfliction cell,' Araghchi wrote. He was referring to the US naval blockade imposed on Iran and a reconstruction and development plan aimed at compensating for the damage caused by US-Israeli airstrikes during their war of aggression.
