TEHRAN: The funeral for Ebadollah Mahmoodian, a renowned mathematics professor at the Sharif University of Technology, took place on Monday, drawing a significant gathering of academic and family members. Mahmoodian, who was celebrated for his contributions to mathematics and was a distinguished figure in Iran’s scientific community, was honored in a ceremony at the university before being laid to rest at Behesht-e Zahra cemetery in Tehran.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the ceremony was attended by the university’s chancellor, officials, professors, and numerous students, alongside the late professor’s family. Mahmoodian’s death marks the loss of a prominent member of Iran’s scientific hall of fame, revered both for his academic achievements and his role as an educator.
Born on May 19, 1943, in Zanjan, Mahmoodian pursued his academic career with distinction, earning his bachelor’s degree from the University of Tehran and his master’s degree from Shiraz University of Technology. He advanced his studies with a master’s and a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania. In 1983, he joined the Sharif University of Technology faculty, where he served as a mathematics professor, influencing a generation of students and colleagues with his expertise and dedication.
