Tehran: Irans military on Thursday dismissed remarks by US President Donald Trump asserting US control over the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing that the strategic waterway remains under Iranian authority.

According to France24.com, Ebrahim Zolfaghari, the spokesperson for Iran's central military command, Khatam-al Anbiya, refuted Trump's claims, labeling them as "lies and fabrications." He stated that the Strait of Hormuz has always been under the management and control of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and no commercial ship or tanker can pass through without the permission and supervision of the Iranian armed forces.

Iran has maintained its hold over the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial route for global energy supplies, since the onset of the Middle Eastern conflict on February 28. The country requires vessels to seek permission and pay transit fees to navigate the waterway.

In a recent post on Truth Social, Trump asserted that the US has "total control over the Strait of Hormuz," describing the US naval presence as a "WALL OF STEEL" that Iran cannot challenge. However, Iran's paramilitary Basij forces, under the Revolutionary Guards, reiterated that the strait remains under Iranian control, as stated by Hossein Taeb on state television.

Iran's top diplomat, Abbas Araghchi, criticized the US for its miscalculations regarding the waterway. He highlighted previous intelligence failures and emphasized that the US is making a significant error with its claims about the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian parliamentarian Behnam Saeedi further asserted that the strait is closed to US and Israeli ships, declaring that vessels from these nations will not be permitted passage under any circumstances. Meanwhile, Iran and Oman are in discussions to establish a new route through the strait, although negotiations have not yet concluded. Tehran insists that even if an alternative route is established, it will remain closed unless the US addresses Iran's demands.
