Seoul: Iran's embassy in Seoul has firmly rejected allegations that Iranian Armed Forces were involved in the damaging of a South Korean-linked vessel in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the embassy released a statement on Thursday categorically denying such claims, emphasizing that the strategic waterway is a part of Iran's defensive geography amid ongoing US-Israeli aggression against the country. The embassy highlighted that rising tensions due to enemy forces and their allies have altered security conditions in the Strait of Hormuz.
The statement further elaborated that ensuring safe passage through the waterway demands full compliance with regulations, adherence to designated routes, and coordination with Iranian authorities. It warned that failure to observe these requirements in an area with heightened military and security tensions could lead to unforeseen incidents, with the responsibility falling on those neglecting the realities on the ground.
Additionally, the embassy reaffirmed Iran's commitment to maritime safety and security in the region, in line with international laws and regulations.
According to media reports, an explosion and fire occurred on Monday aboard the Panama-flagged cargo vessel HMM Namu, operated by South Korean shipper HMM, which had 24 crew members on board. US President Donald Trump, without presenting evidence, claimed that Iran had fired at the ship.
