TEHRAN: Iran’s Parliament Speaker, Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, has reiterated the Islamic Republic’s commitment to supporting resistance movements across the region, emphasizing it as a central strategy for national security and power. Qalibaf, addressing the parliament on Thursday, framed this support as both a national and religious duty.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Qalibaf’s address drew heavily on a recent speech by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, highlighting the divine guidance offered by the leader in times of national sensitivity. Qalibaf praised the Supreme Leader’s insights as a source of comfort and strategic direction for the country’s future, urging adherence to his guidance to avoid unforgivable mistakes amid regional tensions.
Qalibaf acknowledged ongoing regional issues, particularly the situation in Syria, and underscored the importance of following the Supreme Leader’s principles. During his address, lawmakers expressed their support with chants against the United
States and Israel, aligning with the Supreme Leader’s call for vigilance against hegemonic powers.
The speaker emphasized the need for Iran’s foreign policy to confront the tolerance levels of its adversaries regarding Iran’s pursuit of independence and freedom. He reiterated the late Imam Khomeini’s teachings against tyranny and colonialism, asserting that the global movement against oppression, especially among Muslims, is a testament to these principles.
Qalibaf stated that Iran would steadfastly support resistance movements, viewing it as essential for the nation’s security and power generation. He warned that any disruption, such as the fall of the Syrian government, could impact the resistance’s momentum but expressed confidence in groups like Hezbollah to adapt and strengthen their efforts.
Addressing the Syrian conflict, Qalibaf lamented the failure of Damascus to heed Iran’s warnings about enemy plots, resulting in the current state of chaos, sectarian tensions, and infrastructure damage. He expre
ssed hope for the Syrian people’s realization of their plight and the potential for patriotic youth to restore national dignity.
Looking ahead, Qalibaf indicated that Iran’s future relations with Syria would depend on the conduct of armed opposition groups, signaling a strategic approach to regional alliances and resistance movements.
