Iran’s UN Envoy Highlights Support for Syria’s Anti-Terrorism Efforts.

New York: Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations has reiterated Iran’s unwavering support for Syria in its fight against terrorism. Expressing deep concerns over the escalating situation in Syria, the envoy emphasized the Islamic Republic’s commitment to assisting the Syrian government and its citizens in their battle against terrorist organizations.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the Iranian envoy, Amir Saeid Iravani, addressed an emergency meeting of the Security Council, recognizing Syria’s sovereign right to combat and eradicate terrorist groups such as Hayat Tahrir al-Sham. These groups, linked to al-Qaeda and known for causing extensive destruction, pose significant threats to Syria’s stability and sovereignty. Iravani accused the United States of supporting these terrorist activities through its illegal military presence in Syria, arguing that foreign backing has turned terrorism into a tool for advancing political agendas.

The Iranian ambassador’s statement
highlighted the alarming scale and sophistication of these terrorist operations, involving advanced weaponry and drones, which indicate deliberate external support. Iran has called for accountability for those responsible for escalating the conflict in Syria. The statement also condemned the recent terrorist attacks on Aleppo and Idlib, including the deliberate targeting of the Iranian Consulate premises, which Iravani labeled a violation of international law.

Iravani stressed the importance of addressing external support and intervention as the root causes of perpetuating terrorism in Syria. The statement urged the international community to confront the terrorist group decisively to prevent catastrophic consequences for the region and global peace. Iran reaffirmed its commitment to Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, advocating for diplomatic efforts and coordination with the Syrian government in counter-terrorism measures.

The envoy called for a political solution led and owned by the Syrian p
eople, emphasizing the need to end foreign occupation and interference, stop the exploitation of Syria’s resources, and encourage dialogue. Additionally, the international community is urged to prioritize humanitarian assistance, infrastructure recovery, and the safe return of refugees to rebuild Syria free from terrorism and external manipulation.
