Masrour Barzani on the anniversary of the Yazidi genocide: We seek to normalize the situation in Sinjar and secure a dignified voluntary return for the displaced

The Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Masrour Barzani, stressed the endeavor to normalize the situation in Sinjar, rebuild it, and secure a dignified voluntary return for the displaced.

Barzani stressed in a statement on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the Yazidi genocide in Sinjar and its surroundings the continuation of efforts with the federal government to normalize the situation in Sinjar and rebuild it, stressing the need to fully implement the Sinjar agreement to achieve security and stability.

He said: Today marks the tenth anniversary of the genocide committed by ISIS terrorists against the Yazidis in Sinjar and the surrounding areas, that heinous crime during which the terrorists exterminated thousands of the region’s residents, in addition to the loss and displacement of tens of thousands of innocent people.

He added: “Despite the passage of a decade since the massacre, the wounds and pain of the Yazidis have not yet healed, as many of them are still missing, and the
situation in the region has not stabilized yet, which has prevented the displaced from returning to their homes as a result of the dominance of militias and armed groups outside the law in Sinjar.” Barzani reiterated the Kurdistan Regional Government’s emphasis on continuing its efforts with the federal government to normalize the turbulent situation in Sinjar and its suburbs, and to seek to rebuild the region, and to work to secure a decent and dignified voluntary return for the displaced Yazidis to their homes. It stresses the need to implement the Sinjar Agreement in its entirety, in order to establish security and stability in the region, and to hand over the responsibilities and tasks of protection and administration to its original people.
