A large plant for manufacturing electric vehicles (EVs) will be established in Egypt on a 50,000-squaremeter area, in a bid to reach 'self-sufficiency' in the electric cars, announced Ayman Ashur, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research in a statement on Saturday 31/8/2024. However, the Minister did not reveal where the plant will be established. The Minister added that the government is working to increase the percentage of the local components in the products. He noted that the Ministry is cooperating with other Ministries of the Military Production, and Science, Technology and Innovation Funding Authority (STDF). In last June, the Minister announced that the government has started the procedures of manufacturing the first electric car in Egypt. Source: State Information Service Egypt
