Mashhad: The 28th Meeting of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Council of Ministers concluded in the Iranian northeastern city of Mashhad, with officials calling for the expansion of cooperation between the member states. According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the council adopted the Mashhad Communiqué, a pivotal outcome document that sets strategic directions for ECO's activities, reinforcing cooperation among member states. ECO Secretary General Dr. Asad M. Khan stated that the Communiqué has a forward-looking approach, emphasizing the expansion of regional cohesion and efforts to develop infrastructure connections. He expressed hope for greater cohesion among member states through the development of economic activities and thanked the Islamic Republic of Iran for hosting the meeting. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan, Murat Nurtleu, highlighted the importance of tourism within ECO, urging member countries to focus on becoming tourist destinations through cooperation w ith neighboring countries. He noted that the development of the tourism industry could help promote cultural heritage and economic growth, and identified Iranian cities like Mashhad as potential tourist destinations for ECO members. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Mohammad Ishaq Dar, emphasized the necessity of strengthening trade relations and communications between member countries for the prosperity of the ECO region. He suggested that the removal of tariffs could lead to free trade, resulting in economic growth, prosperity, peace, and stability. Dar pointed out that despite good relations, effective collective cooperation is crucial for achieving ECO's ambitious goals. Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister, Jeyhun Bayramov, also advocated for strengthened and expanded joint cooperation among ECO member states in various fields. He viewed the meeting as an opportunity to address the challenges faced by the members and expressed hope for increased efficiency within the organization.
