New US Sanctions Will Not Dampen Iran’s Resolve, Says Foreign Ministry Spokesperson

Tehran: Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei has stated that the proposed new sanctions by the United States will not weaken Iran's determination.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Baqaei emphasized that Washington has long been entangled in a self-defeating cycle of conflict, coercion, and punitive measures-a pattern that has persisted since the 1953 coup and over the past five decades. He conveyed this message during a regular press conference on Monday.

The spokesperson highlighted that during the Democrats' tenure, crippling sanctions were introduced, and later, during US President Donald Trump's first term, the maximum pressure campaign was launched. Both actions, he argued, exposed the inhumane character of US policy. Baqaei further explained that Iran has long anticipated various scenarios in which the US might persist in its hostile actions. Consequently, necessary measures have already been put in place, and Iran will not hesitate to deploy all available resources to confront any emerging situation.

In response to a question about Bahrain's recent letter of protest to the United Nations concerning Baqaei's X post, which advocated respect for the national sovereignty of all regional countries, including newly established governments that have seceded from Iranian territory, Baqaei clarified that he did not name any country in that message. He reiterated Iran's respect for the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of all regional countries.

Baqaei also reminded the Bahraini side, Iranian historians, and those of the region about a resolution adopted by the UN Security Council on May 11, 1970, under Resolution 278. This resolution, based on the UN Secretary-General's Report No. 9772, aimed to resolve the dispute between Britain and Iran at the time. He reiterated Iran's respect for the sovereignty of all countries in the region, in line with the principle of good neighborliness.

He further noted that these issues have arisen mainly because some countries in the region have failed to uphold good neighborly conduct and have overlooked historical and geographic realities. Baqaei questioned the integrity of nations that claim to uphold good neighborliness while placing their resources at the service of the Zionist regime and America to strike neighboring Muslim countries, asking if such actions reflect genuine respect for neighbors.
