Tehran: Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei stated that the two US-Israeli wars against Iran have led regional countries to view the United States as an 'unreliable and untrustworthy partner.' Baqaei made these remarks at a weekly press conference in Tehran, addressing concerns about US President Donald Trump's stance on a defense pact involving Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, and Pakistan.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Baqaei explained that these developments prompted many regional countries to reconsider their dependence on external powers. He emphasized the need for regional countries to focus on self-reliance and mutual trust to create an indigenous security mechanism. Baqaei criticized the US military presence in the region, describing it as a burden rather than a source of security.
Baqaei also discussed a reported shift in Washington's war objectives, noting that the US administration has prioritized reducing fuel prices over Iran's nuclear program. He interpreted this change as evidence of confusion within the US administration and argued that the war lacked a legitimate basis from the start. Baqaei accused the US of fabricating claims about Iran's nuclear threat and described the conflict as an 'imposed war' lacking justification.
Baqaei further criticized the US for changing its objectives to justify its failures, urging Washington to withdraw from the situation before causing further harm. He expressed skepticism about American decision-makers' willingness to acknowledge their mistakes.
In a separate discussion, Baqaei announced the visit of Tajikistan's ministers to Tehran, aimed at implementing agreements between the two countries. He highlighted the productive meetings held with Iranian counterparts, emphasizing the strong commitment to continue cooperation at the highest levels.
Baqaei also mentioned the decline in the Caspian Sea's water level as a key topic for an upcoming meeting of the Tehran Convention parties. He cited climate change and other factors as contributors to the decline and stressed the importance of diplomatic efforts to enhance cooperation among the Caspian littoral states in addressing this environmental issue.
