U.N. Envoy Urges Halt to Israeli Airstrikes on Syria

Tehran: U.N. special envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, has called for an immediate cessation of Israeli airstrikes on Syria. In a recent statement, Pedersen emphasized the necessity for Israel to halt its military actions that violate Syrian sovereignty.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Pedersen expressed strong condemnation over Israel's increasing violations, which include a series of airstrikes in cities such as Damascus. These actions have raised significant concerns about the safety of civilians in the affected areas. Pedersen stressed the importance of Israel adhering to international law and respecting Syria's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence.

The recent escalation involves approximately 20 airstrikes conducted by Israel on Friday night. Israeli authorities have stated that these attacks were conducted to protect the Druze minority amidst ongoing sectarian violence in Syria. Reports from a war monitor indicate that 119 individuals, predominantly Druze fighters, have been killed in recent clashes with militants associated with Syria's new rulers.
