Beijing: Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi announced that 2025 will be a 'golden year' for Iran-China relations, emphasizing upcoming high-level visits and summits intended to enhance bilateral cooperation across various sectors. Araqchi made the statement following a meeting with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, in Beijing, where the two discussed an array of issues, including the ongoing indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Araqchi described the meeting with Wang as both lengthy and significant, covering nearly all aspects of their bilateral relations and international affairs. He highlighted the potential for future cooperation between Tehran and Beijing and praised China's constructive role in past negotiations, particularly the 2015 nuclear deal. Araqchi expressed confidence that China, as 'a friendly country and a problem solver,' will continue to play a positive role as Iran engages in indirect negotiations with the United States to reach a new agreement.
Araqchi indicated his intention to approach the next round of negotiations, scheduled to be held in Oman on Saturday, with seriousness. However, he noted that progress would depend on the commitment of the other side. He remarked that the indirect format of the negotiations has not been an obstacle so far but warned against 'contradictory statements' from the United States in the media. Despite this, Araqchi stated that Iran remains 'cautiously optimistic.'
The foreign minister also discussed with Wang the shared perspectives of Iran and China on U.S. policies, including global bullying and hegemonic behavior. Araqchi mentioned that Wang provided 'detailed explanations on the issue of tariffs' and China's resistance to such policies, underscoring the mutual stance between Tehran and Beijing in opposing U.S. hegemony and intimidation.
Araqchi further noted that the dialogue covered President Masoud Pezeshkian's planned visit to China, alongside key summits and regular meetings between officials from both countries. He highlighted that Pezeshkian will undertake a bilateral visit and later participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in September, solidifying 2025 as a pivotal year for strengthening Iran-China relations.
