Araghchi Honors Freed Iranian War Captives for Upholding National Pride

Tehran: Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has paid tribute to Iran's former captives of the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq War, acknowledging their role in upholding Iran's dignity and pride during their years of captivity.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Araghchi commemorated the anniversary of the return of the first group of Iranian war captives to the country, emphasizing that these individuals did more than endure confinement and deprivation. He highlighted their ability to keep Iran's flag of pride aloft through patience, faith, and dignity.

In his message, Araghchi reflected on August 17 as a significant day that marks the return of these courageous individuals to their homeland. He praised their steadfastness and described them as narrators of another chapter in the epic of the Iranian nation. Araghchi emphasized that despite the harsh conditions of captivity, the former POWs managed to maintain their self-respect and embody the essence of freedom in their spirit.

Araghchi further expressed the Iranian nation's pride and respect for these freed POWs, recognizing them as living symbols of patience and resilience. He conveyed that their legacy extends beyond the memories of captivity, serving as a cultural testament to steadfastness and dignity that will inspire future generations of Iran.

In his concluding remarks, Araghchi paid homage to the spirit of freedom embodied by the former POWs and honored the martyrs of the Sacred Defense. He extended his respects to the patience and resolve of the former POWs, particularly his colleagues at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as their families. He concluded by praying for their continued health and success as invaluable assets to the nation.
