Exclusive | Behavioral Shift by Washington Key to Iran-US Talks, Says Iranian Ambassador

Iran: Iran's Ambassador to Pakistan Reza Amiri Moghaddam has emphasized that the continuation of negotiations between Tehran and Washington depends on the United States changing its behavior. In an exclusive interview with IRNA on Sunday in Islamabad, Amiri Moghaddam stated that Iran has presented a comprehensive plan aimed at ending the US-Israeli aggression, and clarifies its positions openly. However, he underlined that progress hinges on the US's sincerity and willingness to resolve issues through genuine diplomatic efforts.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the ambassador reiterated the Islamic Republic's commitment to safeguarding national interests and defending Iran's rights. He confirmed that Iran had shared its latest proposal with Pakistan, the main mediator in the ongoing talks, which was then conveyed to the American side. Emphasizing Pakistan's pivotal role, Amiri Moghaddam expressed appreciation for its efforts in facilitating dialogue, reaffirming that the mediation process remains firm. He also criticized US behavior, describing it as unpredictable and aggressive, contrasting it with Iran's transparent diplomatic stance.

On the economic front, Amiri Moghaddam stated that Pakistan aims to boost trade with the Caucasus and Central Asian countries, for which the Iranian route serves as an ideal option. Therefore, the two countries' border crossings play a vital role in enhancing bilateral trade and transit in this respect. Following a 40-day conflict starting February 28, a ceasefire took effect on April 8, and extended indefinitely on April 21. Initial Iran-US talks in Islamabad on April 11 concluded without agreement.
