France Allocates $211 Million from Frozen Russian Assets for Ukraine Arms

Paris: French Armed Forces Minister S©bastien Lecornu has announced plans to utilize interest from frozen Russian assets to supply Ukraine with an additional £195 million ($211 million) in military aid. This move is part of France's ongoing support for Ukraine amidst growing international tensions.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, France intends to provide Ukraine with older armored fighting vehicles, including the AMX-10RC and personnel carriers. Lecornu disclosed that the interest from frozen Russian assets would fund 155-mm artillery shells and glide bombs for the Mirage 2000 fighter jets, which France has already supplied to Ukraine.

European nations have been intensifying their assistance to Ukraine following a decision by Washington to reduce military aid and intelligence sharing. This decision came after a disagreement between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a February meeting at the White House.

Last year, the Group of Seven (G7) powers committed to providing Ukraine with $50 billion in bilateral loans, which Ukraine could repay using profits from $300 billion in frozen Russian state assets. However, the French Finance Minister had previously opposed using these frozen assets for Ukraine, citing legal concerns and international agreements regarding the ownership of these funds by the Russian Central Bank.
