Indirect Nuclear Talks with US Progress Seriously in Geneva, FM Spokesperson Confirms

Geneva: Indirect nuclear talks between Iran and the United States are being conducted seriously in Geneva, Switzerland, according to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei. Speaking on the sidelines of the Geneva nuclear talks, Baqaei conveyed that significant and operational proposals were discussed concerning nuclear matters and the lifting of sanctions. Both delegations are in consultation with their respective capitals to move the discussions forward.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Baqaei noted that the negotiations have been intensive, beginning in the morning and lasting three hours, with the involvement of the Omani foreign minister and the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The discussions are set to resume in the evening, as delegations return to the negotiation site after a short break.

Regarding the US's commitment to the Geneva talks, Baqaei emphasized Iran's confidence in its negotiating position, stating that Iran has maintained consistent negotiating behavior and alignment between its positions and statements. However, he remarked that the same level of consistency has not been observed from the other side. Baqaei expressed hope that the ongoing talks will yield practical proposals and initiatives, facilitating continued discussions on sanction relief and nuclear issues.

Baqaei highlighted the significance of the negotiations, pointing out global media and influential circles' keen interest in the developments. He acknowledged that much of the discourse has been speculative, based on past negotiation patterns, and emphasized the importance of focusing on the directives communicated to the Iranian delegation to secure the nation's interests and rights.

The spokesperson also indicated that discussions have been active for the past few hours, with various initiatives being proposed. He stressed the need to wait until the evening to assess how these discussions evolve, especially those requiring further consultation with the capitals for finalization. Baqaei reaffirmed that nuclear issues are the exclusive focus of the negotiations, underscoring the Iranian nation's right to peaceful nuclear energy as an integral part of the dialogue.

On the topic of sanctions, Baqaei stated that the Iranian people have suffered due to what he described as unjust sanctions, and any agreement must prioritize their removal.
